Local Announcements Sept 09, 2017

FOR THE BENEFIT OF KC BRETHREN WHO WERE OUT-OF-TOWN LAST WEEKEND, MANY OF THE FOLLOWING ANNOUNCEMENTS ARE REPEATED OR UPDATED FROM LAST SABBATH.

WELCOME BACK TO SYCAMORE HILLS:

We will be meeting on the Sabbath here at Sycamore Hills Elementary School, for the foreseeable future.  As before, chair pickup will need to begin by 3:45 PM, so please move your belongings off of the chairs and floor before that time.  At about 4:15, please begin to vacate the building so that everyone is completely out of the building by 4:25, to allow the custodian to promptly begin his work.

PRAYER REQUEST (for the Hutchins):

Recalling a previous prayer request for Jim Hutchins regarding the clean-out of an infection in his knee replacement, Jim is at home recovering and still needs our prayers.  His Dr. estimates a recovering time of two to three months, during which Jim will be unable to work, creating a financial hardship.  At this time, their is a need for someone to take Jim to a Dr. appointment on Monday, September 18th, since Sherri must be at work.  Also there is a need for meal items, including lunch items that would allow Jim to easily prepare his lunches; a food sign-up list is on the Information Table.  The Hutchins cellphones are:  for Jim (816) 482-1734; for Sherri (816) 482-1733.  Their new address is 952 S. 74th Street, K.C., Kansas 66111.

PRAYER REQUEST (Ron & Beryl Wilson):

Not to be undone by his wife Beryl, Ron Wilson fell on Thursday, August 31st, wrenching his back and bruising one arm.  Chiropractor son Barry has been treating Ron at home.  Your prayers are requested for Ron’s comfort and recovery.  Regarding Beryl, this just came in from Ron:  Latest x-ray shows Beryl’s arm is not completely healed, but is continuing to show bone growth.  Physical therapy has started and Beryl now goes out of the house if she wears a sling in crowded areas.  We should be at church this Sabbath (Sept. 9th) when this is read; however we wish to thank everyone for your prayers and helping us with our meals—not crazy about Chinese any more and my (Ron’s) corn dogs with peas got old; love you all—God bless each of you, and we pray that He will bless you with a great Feast!!!

PRAYER REQUEST (for Jeanett Riley):

Jeanette Riley, who lives in Warrensburg, Missouri, is requesting prayers to relieve the pain in her shoulder and hip, caused by a rare infection.  She had been in a convalescent facility, but is now at home recovering.

DEATH NOTICE:

Many of our brethren may know Jerry & Rebecca (Becky) Skovgaard from the Omaha, Nebraska congregation.  Becky died Wednesday, August 30th, from health complications, at age 64.  Both Jerry & Becky have been long-time, faithful members of the Global/Living Church of God. Becky is the sister of Mark Bashus who also attends in Omaha with his wife Laura.  At the family’s request, there will be no visitation or service at this time.  Cards can be sent to Jerry Skovgaard, 508 Bellevue Blvd N., Bellevue, Nebraska 68005.

OZARKS FEAST STATUS:

Last week, Jim Meredith reported that he has known for a few months that there was a possibility that we would not be able to have the Feast at the Country Club Hotel. The fact was that the remodeling project that was promised to be completed in June, was way behind schedule.  I was then informed that the local Fire Marshall had visited the site, and determined that a new fire-suppression system was required in the main event center, the extent of which could not be completed in time for the Feast.  To make matters worse, the arrangements for a contingency Feast site in the Ozarks, fell-thru.   However, after fervent prayers, miraculous calls were received from two Ozarks facilities that had space available.  He and Dr. Franz visited these two facilities last Thursday, and a determination will be forthcoming as to which was chosen.

TEACHERS LOUNGE AT SYCAMORE HILLS:

On a trial basis, the School District has given us permission to use the Teachers Lounge, located between the west entrance and the restrooms, for mothers with infants.  AS BEFORE, nobody is permitted to buy any products from the vending machines in this room.  This was violated previously and led to us being kicked out of this room; please do not let that happen again!  The school has also asked that mothers take extra care to keep the tables sanitized.  Dirty diapers should be placed in the trash receptacle in one of the restrooms.

The teachers expect to come into their lounge on Monday to a lounge as clean and odor-free as they left it.  Also, the choir can gather in this room for rehearsals after services.  Please don’t be the one who causes us to lose the use of this Teachers Lounge!  NOTE:  The Teachers Lounge if for ladies ONLY with infants; men with children need to stay in the west hallway or the east entrance.

SEPTEMBER SPOKESMAN/GRAD CLUB:

The Combined Spokesman/Graduate Club will have its kick-off meeting on Saturday, September 16th, beginning at 7:30 PM, at the Best Western Plus Hotel, 4825 NE Lakewood Way, Lees Summit, located between Lakewood Blvd and Woods Chapel Road on the East side of Hwy 291, directly behind the Summit Grill & Bar.   Doors will be open by at least 7:00 PM.  Anyone who was not in Club last year and desires to be in Club this year, please sign the sign-up list to be found on the Information Table, or on-line at the kclcg.org web-site under the Resource tab.

CHILDREN’S Y.E.S. BIBLE LESSON CLASS:

Next Sabbath, September 16th, the Children’s Y.E.S. Bible Lesson Class will meet after services to go over Lesson #11.

UPCOMING HOLY DAYS:

Looking ahead to our two locally-held Holy Days as noted on our Church calendar:

The Feast of Trumpets will be on Thursday, September 21st, at the Adams Mark Hotel, 9103 East 39th Street, Kansas City, Missouri, with services at 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM.  An offering will be taken up during the morning service.

The Day of Atonement will be on the weekly Sabbath of September 30th, right here at Sycamore Hills Elementary School, with one service at 1:00 PM, during which an offering will be taken up.

ANOTHER HEAD-COUNT FOR POST-FEAST SABBATH:

Mr. Millich has asked that we take another survey of the congregation to see how many brethren will be back in Kansas City for the weekly Sabbath of October 14th soon after the Last Great Day.  Therefore, would the ushers take their places so as to observe the count, and would those who will be attending the October 14th Sabbath, adults & children, please raise your hands high.

MEN’S CLOTHES AVAILABLE:

From the assortment of men’s clothes that were available last week from Keith Cooper, there are still a few item left, hung on the gate in the west hallway.  The shirts are all Large size, and other items have size tags attached.
